Farmington for the summer -

Hi, Everyone.  I (Carol) am assigned the task of writing the blog this week. Kristi is out taking pictures while I compose.

We've been at Farmington Conference Center for a week now.  It's been a good week....a busy week. On our arrival, we met Ann Lawrence, Camp Director and Luke, a college student who is working here at the camp for the summer. And I must not forget Sadie, Luke's dog.

The big house - Director & Staff housing
Our camping site is in the front part of the center, in full sun, which felt really good on some of these cool rainy days we have had this week.  The camp is really pretty. It is set in the rolling hills of Maine close to the charming town of Farmington. On the property is the administration building, the Chandler House, built in the 1800's.  It has had quite a bit of renovation and now  houses the director and some of the camp staff.  There is a chapel with a dining area in the basement and  housing on the third floor.  The other building in the front area is the Bunkhouse which sleeps about 22.  Oh, yes, we also have a big red barn.

Camp dining hall
2 cabins and bath house
As you walk past the pond and down the hill ,you arrive at the camp area. They have three cabins, each divided into two rooms with bunk beds in each.....don't remember how many, sorry! Then there is a bath house and a large kitchen and dining area. Tall evergreen trees keep it shaded and cool. Yes, it does get hot here. This week it got into the 80's.  Okay, I know you in Florida are laughing but it was hot. There is an outdoor worship center, reminds me a lot of the worship area at Lake Yale's Girls Camp except it's on a hill.  There is an activity area, a Prayer Garden  and a trail down to Sandy River. Well, that was the 10 cent tour of our home for the summer.

Sunday morning we went to Farmington Baptist Church. It's very convenient, like next door. However, we drove there for Worship.  It's a large small church!  Fairly new construction and a mixture of ages.  We enjoyed the praise team as they led us in worshiping through song.  The pastor is from Florida!!!  We went back at 6:00 Sunday evening (this time walking) and enjoy an Evening Of Praise. Five other churches in the area came with their praise teams. It was so awesome.  There were 9 different groups. I think it was 9:00 when we got back home.

The week was filled with getting ready for the Girls Camp which begins July 14th. Bob worked in the barn getting it cleaned and organized. He also cleaned the unwanted growth in the Prayer Garden and moved mattress to the camp. Kristi and I started cleaning the camp. Some of the areas had been closed since last year. I was so surprised how damp the basements were but they sure were cool on the hot days.

On Thursday, a big tanker truck arrived with wording on the side "SPLASH!  Here comes the water!"  They filled our above ground pool in just 20 minutes.  Now that's the way to do it!

Dick and Delana
We worked with another couple who had been here since May, Dick and Delana Talley.  Dick is retired State Disaster Relief Director from Texas.  We enjoyed hearing his testimonies of how God has worked as he served in other countries with water purification teams. They left going back to Texas on Saturday.

Friday the first of the camp staff arrived, Nichole. She is from New York.  We look forward to getting to know Nichole and her dog, Zeke.

We were excited about celebrating the 4th of July with our new "Mainer" friends. BUT....the rains came on Friday and all was postponed until Saturday. The sun didn't come out until lat afternoon, so we went to the lakefront home of one of the volunteers, Melissa and her husband, Todd.  It was such a beautiful drive.  I am falling in love with Maine.  They have a beautiful home on Long Pond.  It's not like our ponds in Florida.....it was a beautiful 7 mile long lake surrounded by mountains (hills to "Mainers").

Members of their church were there also,  reminding us again of how blessed we are to have Family in Christ, wherever we go.

Thank you again for your prayers.
