Proud to be an AMERICAN!

Hi from our Nation's Capitol!

This is Carol writing this week and what a special week to be the writer!
We have had a week of tears, of joys, of being lost...in Washington, of being in complete awe and of being so full of pride to call ourselves Americans.

We began our week by visiting Arlington National Cemetery.  It's hard to describe the feeling as we walked through fields of graves, many of soldiers who gave their lives in battle. They fought to give us our freedom but they also fought to give other countries the freedom they enjoy today. There were others who had served proudly in the Armed Forces or served in our government making decisions that brought us the great country that we live in today. Tears flowed as we watched the reverence and respect given at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We were told that their are 400,000 graves and over 5,000 of them are unknown.  Yes, I'm proud to be an American!

Our trip to the National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center was amazing. It was a little drive, but worth the trip. It was huge and had aircraft from the very beginning, through the World Wars, Korea and Vietnam eras. We took a two hour tour and our guide was excellent, not just telling us the history of flight but little stories that made it so interesting. We finished the tour with the Discovery. It flew 39 missions to outer space. Special to me because I had watched it so many times from my front yard. Another "wow" was the "Enola Gay", the bomber that dropped the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima.

Another emotional visit was our trip in to the Vietnam War Memorial Candlelight Vigil. It was at 9:00pm. There was a very large crowd but you could hear a pin drop. As the Gold Star Mothers put wreaths on the wall, the bagpipes played Amazing Grace followed by the buglers playing Taps. I don't think there was a dry eye anywhere. As we left the area, we saw the monuments at night. What a beautiful sight.

All the walking and standing took it's tole on Bob's bad knee.  He decided it best he take the next day off. Kristi and I went in and "experienced" the National Mall and the crowds enjoying the area. They were as interesting to watch as the monuments...well, almost. In a moment of weakness, we got ice cream, Kristi an Oreo sundae and I got a large coke float.  So good!

Today, we all went in to see "Rolling Thunder" ride into the National Mall. We'd heard that there were very many, but didn't expect so many that it took 3 hours for them all to ride by. They were going at a pretty good speed, not a parade speed. It touched me when some of them saw Bob with his Retired USMC hat and POW shirt on and saluted him. There was a man across from us that held a large American flag up almost the whole time. I don't know how he did it!

We are almost completely 100% "clean eating" (no preservatives).  We made our own butter, mayonnaise and bread. We've been spending extra time shopping to read labels. Try it the next time you shop....you will see what they are hiding in our food and in turn putting into our bodies!

My only disappointment is that we haven't connected with any campers. They are most big rigs and no one sits outside. Pray God will send us some to share with.

Oh, Oh, I almost forgot to share about the METRO!!!  I love it!  So quick and efficient and clean. It is the way to go in Washington!!!! I'm ready to tackle the New York City Subways!!!!

Thank you for your prayers ~

Busy week being tourists!

WOW - what a whirl-wind of a week!  Oh and it's Kristi, by the way...We are going into our 4th week on the road.  We still love each other and everyone is still alive :)  All three of us are reading Pursuit of Holiness so between our alone time with Jesus and the book, it is really kind of hard to catch an attitude for very long before the Holy Spirit whips you back into shape :)  (TRUST ME ON THIS ONE...LOL)

So last Sunday we were in Williamsburg - then to Fredricksburg and today we are in Washington DC at Andrew's Air Force Base.  I will do my best to catch you up...I feel I need a little catching up too :)

As Daddy left you last week, we were so enjoying out beautiful surroundings at Navy base in WIlliamsburg, which many of you saw the pictures we posted.  Crazy beautiful!!

You know how he said we kept getting lost?  Well it kept on happening...All I have to say is if you happen to go to WIlliamsburg - Take a good map of the area, the one they gave us didn't work...OH and you probably won't be staying on base, and that is where our real problems were...so never mind...Just stay downtown where all the fun stuff is and you will be just fine...Make sure you check out the farmers market too!

We then went to Fort A.P. Hill right outside of Fredricksburg in a little town called Bowling Green.  Let me just tell you...the little downtown parts of these towns are sooo quaint.  I so could live at any of these little places.  Love the history connected to the towns...Or should I say I love learning the history of these little towns.  I am learning so much, things are coming alive when you are actually right where things happened.  And while I am on the learning subject, I must confess and share one of the biggest AHH HAA moments I had...as we were crossing James river Momma said this was the river that John Smith sailed in on and the whole Pocahontas story happened...I was like WHAT?!?!  POCAHONTAS IS REAL?  HA - WHO KNEW?  Apparently a lot of people knew that it wasn't JUST a Disney movie.  I have laughed so many times at "how did i miss that?"  So let me just say that I did share this with others and I apparently am NOT the only one that didn't know it was a true story...So if you are one that didn't...YOU AREN'T ALONE!  hehehehe

OK - so not on to the rest of my story for the week...We had a wonderful time going into Fredricksburg (no we didn't get lost).  Found another amazing farmers market.  I am really loving the beautiful flowers here...they just don't look like this in Florida.  Oh got another funny...Here we are shopping at this beautiful market downtown Fredricksburg, all of the tomatoes they were selling had signs above them FLORIDA tomatoes...how funny...all the way up here in VA we got Florida tomatoes...and they were super yummy!

Our campground wasn't as beautiful as the other, but we were next to a very interesting gentleman...Daddy met his match in the talking arena...WOW - first time we had to save Daddy....it is usually the other way around...we save the other person from Daddy.  hehehehe

Also...we made our own butter!!!  HOW COOL IS THAT!!!  And let me just tell you...it tastes amazing!!!

Found a very friendly church in downtown Bowling Green to attend Sunday morning - they had an early service at 8:30 - which worked great since we were to head to DC that day.

We arrived at Andrews Air Force Base and Oh My WORD - this place is HUGE!  It's like a little city behind those gates...they even have their own school...Crazy!  But super cool - you wouldn't have to leave, well except to go see Washington :) lol...

We have our maps - we have our route - we have our metro passes....WE ARE READY!!!  Tomorrow we begin our touristy stuff.  It is so weird to think I am only a few miles away from the White House and all the other stuff...I can't wait to see it all!

We have met lots of people, been about to share our story and what we are doing.  God just keeps going ahead of us and making our path straight.

Please continue to pray for us as we travel, God's plans and God's provisions over us.  We are completely walking by faith and know He will provide our needs.  Asking for eyes to see and ears to hear as we go.  OH and please pray for me with all these HUGE bridges I am having to go over...I love the water, but this is really making me want to go INLAND!!!  Why do they have to make them so HIGH!  Please pray for me on days we travel...I have completely trusting in God to drive us from place to place!

More pics at the bottom....I am so in love with the trees up here - they are so beautiful!

Love you all ~
