Semper Fi

Bob here -

5 May 2014

Arrived at Hunting Island, South Carolina.  We will be here for 2 days to visit a place called Parris Island where I spent 14 weeks training to become of on America's finest...A MARINE!

Boot camp was a great experience in my life.

We took a driving tour of the island.

The places that my father-in-law, Grant Casity, Myself, our oldest son, Scott and our youngest son, Greg spent our time training to become Marines.

Places that we slept, Grant and mine were old wood barracks, Scott & Greg's were brick with air condition.  The marching/drill field were about the same.

We all trained in a big swimming pool to learn to swim (military way) utilities & boots.  Remove your boots, take off your utility shirt/jacket and make a life vest by tieing knots in the sleeves and catching air to make a float.  Then for the next 40 minutes floating to pass the test.

Then running through obstacle course to train for the big confidence course to pass this test.

Hours and hours and hours spent on the drill field training to do movements while still and movements marching getting ready for graduation.

We started with 80 in our platoon and graduated with 68 but only with 38 of the original 80, the other 30 were pickups along the training until graduation day.

I thought we would see a graduation, but now graduation is only on Friday.

All the Marines that we say looked so young, the DI's and officers.

It was a great two days for me.

We are locked and loaded, pulled out from our campground, which was beautiful in all aspects, beach, all walks & bike rides. Good-bye Myrtle Beach, SC.

Now on to Virginia to the Navy supply military base at Williamsburg, VA.  Hard to find with Matilda (GPS).  The base must be off the grid for electronics, but after a few phone calls to the base and route directions we found it and the campground.  We were assigned to the big camp area with 50 hookups.  We looked at a smaller campground on , on, on the river.  Breathtaking view.  Only one other camper in the camp.   Only 10 spots for small campers and only 2 of the 10 for large 30'.  We took it over the large 50 site campground.  We thanked God for letting us have this spot!

We were totally lost going into Willimsburg.  The GPS would not function for correct locations the 1st/2nd times then it would or rather when we found Hwy 199 (the base is on 199)

The rides going and coming (lost) were fantastic!  Beautiful - Beautiful!

Went to a farmers market on Saturday.  It was greater than great.  All organic & the flowers were fantastic also.  The meats and cheeses and yogurt were also great.

We went to Williamsburg Baptist Church this morning.  The building was very pretty and old.  The first church was established 185 years ago.

We will be going to our next stop, Fredricksburg, VA on Wednesday.

Carol and I will attempt town on Monday or Tuesday but not Kristi, she has had enough of getting lost.  :)

How about these pictures!  Great!! :)

Until the next blog ~
