Week two and three - going fast as can be!

The plan was to post weekly, but two weeks flew by without a post...So, here we go and I will play catch up!

So our second week was just as much of a whirlwind as our first week.  We settled into our jobs and busy getting a lot accomplished.

One of Momma and I's tasks we were asked to help with was the Christmas party for their staff and volunteers.  Knowing how much we absolutely love planning parties and
creating decorations, we were in heaven and jumped at the opportunity.  We quickly got started with center pieces and table runners.  We worked on them all week and then it happened...Our ideas became realities.  We went out early to set up the party room and loved how it all came together.  The room looked great, let the party begin.  What a great night, all the staff and many of the volunteers coming together for a night of fellowship and fun with each other.  Many work on certain days or nights so this was a great way to come together and get to know each other.  It was such a joy to meet people from all over San Antonio, different churches and different groups all coming together for Strong Foundation.  A great time was had by all.

Home base
Daddy has been busy working with Brad and Roger with renovations on one of Strong Foundations homes, getting it ready for other residents.

Momma has also been very busy with KidzTime which is where the children go while the parents are at different life skills classes throughout the week.  They have different churches and small groups come in and do crafts, games, and are Christ to the children. She is also busy with children's church.  Mom is loving all the children and spending time with them.

Cheryl and I
Shannan and I
My days are filled with helping Cheryl out in the office.  What an honor and privileged to serve in this capacity.  It's great to be in an office again, but wow are her days crazy.  You will never get bored that's for sure.  From having meetings with residents to see how they are doing, to dealing with the food bank, to interviews, to the phone going non stop as well as the full house of residents.  She really has her hands full.  Now, with all that being said, I would not do her position justice without mentioning all of the others that come along side helping.  There is also all of the night volunteer staff that comes as well as the resident staff and volunteers.  It is great seeing how everyone pulls together to get the job done.  They have an amazing office crew, I am just privileged enough to work with Cheryl and Shannan during the day shift.  The office is covered M-S 8:15 - sometime in the night.  So it isn't just your typical office hours.  As you can see, it takes a many to make it all happen.

I can't forget about the Boxes of Hope.  We were able to go with Cheryl and represent
Strong Foundation to help pack over 7500 boxes.  These boxes have enough food in them to feed a family of 4 for a week.  The Redeemer Presbyterian Church is the one that heads it up, but all different organizations across the city from the Air Force to girl scouts, churches to schools, everyone came together to get the boxes out to people who need them.  There was over 550 people packed the 7500 boxes in 3 and a half hours.  The warehouse went from full to empty in that short of time.  What another great opportunity and privilege.

The Christmas decorations came out and the guys got busy on the outside, while the girls got busy on the inside.  Momma painted a beautiful mural at the center that looked just like their Christmas cards, then in one afternoon, Momma and Bianca had the house looking spectacular.  That evening when Bianca's children got home they went to town on the Christmas tree.  Momma's loving every bit of it.  Cookies and hot cocoa to wrap it all up. Doesn't get much better than that!

To complete our third week, we took a little side trip down to Corpus Christi to Mustang Island for our last gulf beach trip till next year.  Crazy to say that, but once we leave here  it will be a long time before we are at a beach again.  Kathy & John, I will be ready for some Oregon beaches when I get there - so make sure we get a day trip in!  :)

All in all - the weeks have flown by, can't believe how fast our time here is going.  I look forward to spending more time loving on the residents, staff and friends while we are here.  I know God has lots in store.  We pray that we are a refreshment to all who are a part of Strong Foundation.

Looking forward to the next few weeks - all the Christmas preparations have begun!

and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.[a] For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.  Philemon 1:6-8
